The Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center in Wellsboro, PA presents a call for entries to its annual Youth Art Exhibit. The exhibition dates are March 26 to April 6, 2018. The exhibition will feature approximately 50 artworks by high school students from Bradford, Tioga, and Potter Counties.

Eligibility: Open to all 7th-12th-grade level public, private, and home-schooled students from Bradford, Tioga, and Potter Counties.

Accepted artworks: Submissions will be juried and selected by a committee of artists from the Gmeiner. Selections will be based on quality, presentation, and proper application format.

Accepted works can be hand-delivered or shipped. Instructions will be included in a notification email letter. The entrant will be responsible for transporting their work to and from the gallery. Every precaution will be taken to handle artwork with utmost care. However, the Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center will not be responsible for damage or loss in any case.

Notification: Notification of accepted & non-accepted works will be sent via email.

Awards: Cash scholarships will be awarded for the continuation of artistic endeavor

Conditions: Students can submit a maximum of 3 artworks. Artwork must be original. Copies of published photos or anyone else’s art are not acceptable. We are looking for work that is based on the student’s own photographs or imagination. And we are looking for original, masterfully completed works inspired by school assignments.

Applicants are encouraged, not required to submit two-dimensional work with a maximum size of 48” in any direction. Sculptural and ceramic work must fit through a 6×8’ doorway and weigh less than 70 pounds. Video works are eligible. All accepted videos will be shown on a flat-screen monitor, provided by the Gmeiner. Selected videos must be looped on a DVD and have a pixel aspect ratio of 720×480 or higher.

Artists may not substitute another work for an accepted work, alter work after submission, nor withdraw a work after it has been accepted. Artists may but are not required to mat and/or frame accepted entries. Though the Gmeiner does appreciate the effort when those resources are available!! The Gmeiner reserves the right to refuse any entry which does not match the images submitted, is delivered with wet paint, or does not meet the criteria. The Gmeiner reserves the right to refuse work that is not right for space.

Attach 1 high resolution image of student artwork.

Name the file first name.last name_title. Example: Allen.Smith_Cake or Hope.LeVan_EdgeOfTheWoods

In the body of the email list the following:

Artist name

Title of artwork

Medium

Artist statement (In the student’s own words, 3-5 sentence describing how and why they created this particular piece.)

Grade

School

 

Repeat this process for any additional entries, each in their own separate email. Failure to follow this procedure can disqualify an entry from the jurying process.

Attach 1 slideshow file of student work

Attach one Word or Pages document listing student name, title of artwork, medium, artist statement, grade, and school in order of appearance. (We cut and paste from this document to create labels for accepted work.)

 

On each slide:

A high resolution image of the entry

Artist name

Title of artwork

Medium

Artist statement (In the student’s own words, 3-5 sentence describing how and why they created this particular piece.)

Grade

School

 

Repeat this process for any additional entries until the slideshow is complete. Failure to follow this procedure can disqualify an entry from the jurying process.
